Oh my goodness it was a COLD run!! I spent three hours thinking about when to run. I was doing field visits for work and it was all over the radio and facebook that the temperatures were going to steadily drop each hour of the day. So I pulled over at 11:30 at the battlefield and thought that I would knock it out then, but then I realized that I didn't have two pairs of pants, just one and that my legs get chilly at 45 degrees so they surely would at 32 degrees (which it was at that time). So I zoomed to my other appointment and then had to drive 30 minutes home. The entire time I am thinking in my mind what I will wear so that I will be warm enough but not too hot on my run. It is such a balance in cold weather running. I get home and it is now 12:45. I am very hungry, but it is more important to me to get this run out before the temperature drops even half of a degree more. Half way through the run I realize that I perhaps should have shoved something down my throat before running. I am out of zing and had nothing to keep me going.
I end up wearing my winter running pants with yoga pants on top. I wear two of my winter running shirts. I wear a band around my head and another fleece band around my mouth. This ended up coming down to a neck guard because it was too tight for my breathing. My son has a bandana that would have been perfect but I couldn't find it. I also had two pair of sock on and gloves. My phone was not fully charged, so I knew it would die on my again during this run. I really need a new gps system.
I ran in silence due to trying to keep my phone alive. I was not cold internally but could tell that my skin was. My legs and hands tingled. My pace was slower but it didn't seem that way. I think it was just the natural slowing from the cold. My lungs did good at the end which I was concerned about since I didn't have anything warming my breath.
I do not like running in this cold of temperatures, but I will do it! And tomorrow is going to be even colder. BRRRRR
