And I thought yesterday was cold! It didn't have anything on today. My goodness I was chilled to the bone. That bandana was frozen by the time I was done with my run. When I took it off it maintained its shape perfectly. The wind was going with me on the way out and against me on the way back. I would love to be inside my house running on a treadmill watching my television shows instead of freezing my tush off. But then again, each aspect of running outside is so exhilarating. The sun, heat, rain, cold, wind all partake in reminding me each and everyday that I am absolutely alive. That I am running, pounding the pavement, improving my health, expressing my fitness and that just isn't captured on a treadmill. It is always a nice little respite in the middle of a run to have to stop and yell HELP! GET YOUR DOGS!!! Or to get flipped off by a crazy psycho driver when you wave at them frantically to move over on the road. Or so get the honor of breathing in the disgusting smells of the chicken plants and cow manure. Oh and you surely don't get the opportunity to almost trip over a dead fox carcass on the treadmill!! Yes all of these things happened today on my run.
My friend Nate posted a meme on facebook about how he has gotten to see so many things that he would have never seen just from running. I can guarantee that all runners agree with this. All hikers would, all swimmers, all bikers. Anyone that actually gets out and moves their bodies to places that cars can't go would agree with this. If you only go places where your car will drive you, you truly are missing out on the world and its beauty.
My legs don't like running in the cold after the run is over. My muscles hurt more for hours afterwards. A lot more stretching is required. It is like putting a rubber band outside in the freezing cold, it constricts completely. I am looking forward to warmer weather but I have a feeling it will get colder before it gets warmer. Perhaps a couple days inside on a treadmill wouldn't be too bad after all.
